FEBRUARY IS PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH !

Pet Dental Health Month serves as an annual reminder that pets don't rinse and spit and they don't say "Ahhh." Their teeth, therefore, might need a little attention!
Dental checks are as important to animals as they are to people and maintaining your pet's dental health significantly reduces the number of oral problems they might have in the future.
Red gums, stinky breath or yellow teeth could lead to oral disease if left untreated, giving your pet a poor quality of life.
This February, commit to having your pet's teeth checked and ask one of our veterinarians about the best way to care for their smile!

ABOUT THAT CHOCOLATE, CANDY AND ALCOHOL

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, we wanted to remind pet parents about the dangers of chocolate, candy and alcohol.
Pets can experience serious, and sometimes deadly, side effects if chocolate is consumed due to the presence of caffeine and theobromine, two compounds which are poisonous to cats and dogs.
Dark and unsweetened are the most dangerous forms of chocolate, while milk chocolate contains lower toxin levels.
Sometimes found in candy, xylitol is a sweetener that can be harmful to dogs, causing low blood sugar and liver damage if ingested.
Alcohol poisoning in pets is more common than you might think and can occur when pets lap up spills from the floor or get into unbaked yeast bread dough. Ingestion of alcohol can cause dangerous drops in blood sugar, blood pressure, and body temperature and may lead to seizures and respiratory failure.
If you find your pets helping themselves to any of these, please contact us right away so we can determine the best treatment for them. Remember: the sooner treatment begins, the better the outcome.

TIPS FOR A PET SAFE SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Between cheering, feasting and watching the big game, it's easy to lose track of your furry fans. As many of us prepare for the game-day festivities, keep these tips in mind for a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl party.
Don't tempt fate: Human snacks may prove too enticing for some pets. Before offering to host, seek alternative arrangements and leave pets at home if attending a party.
Coach your guests: Pets may resort to running smart and aggressive plays if begging doesn't work, so encourage guests to use snack trays or sit at a table to minimize food fumbles.
Keep treats ready to pass: Go for the extra point by keeping pet-safe snacks handy for hungry eyes.
Keep a watchful eye: Unattended plates and cups are tempting for pets, so be sure to clean up promptly. Secure trash cans or keep them in a room that's off-limits for pets to prevent disaster in the end zone.
Mute the cheering section: Noisy crowds can make pets nervous. If your pet tires easily, give them a quiet space away from the excitement of the party.
